It is our great pleasure to invite you to the first talk in our 2017 Business Lecture Series from Lord Powell of Bayswater KCMG.

Since stepping down as an adviser to 10 Downing Street on foreign affairs & defence, Lord Powell has pursued a career in international business, serving on the boards of several major companies as well as playing a leading part in many public institutions. He sits as a non-party member of the House of Lords.

Given his close association with China, since visiting the country with Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s and subsequently with other British Prime Ministers, it is not surprising that he also served for many years as President of the China-Britain Business Council.

Lord Powell last visited our Institute in 2013. While he focused then on the global impact of China's economic growth, this time he will discuss the broader implications for both countries of Brexit, the Trump presidency, rising populism and growing threats to peace and security in Asia.

This lecture will take place in one of Scotland's oldest and pre-eminent private members' club, The New Club, 86 Princes Street, Edinburgh EH2 2BB.

Please note there is a strict dress code Jacket and tie for gentlemen, and no Jeans or Trainers for anyone for attending this lecture.

A short networking drinks reception will take place after the talk and Q&A. The evening should conclude around 8pm.

All welcome. Booking is essential. To secure your place please visit our website link - http://edin.ac/2nGTUrC

We look forward seeing you on Tuesday 9 May in New Club at 6pm.
