Welcome to the New SCEN Website

Welcome to the new SCEN website, designed to be more accessible, informative, and user friendly. The website hosts information about SCEN and its work, as well as from our partner bodies involved in the teaching of Mandarin across Scotland.

After collecting feedback at various stages from the Chinese Teaching Club and a variety of students across Scotland, the new SCEN website was launched on 16 August 2021.

In developing the ideas for the new website, a survey was sent out to the Chinese Teaching Club, which was then discussed at their meeting in May, and the outline for the new Teaching Zone was agreed. Also, students were gathered to give feedback at three stages of the website’s development commenting on aesthetic, user friendliness, and desired content. All of this fed into the new website’s design and function.

The new SCEN website at its core is organised in a familiar structure to the previous one, but has new pages which we hope will better serve its users in finding the content and resources they are looking for.

The main new features of the site are the Learning Zone, Teaching Zone, and the Opportunities section. The Learning Zone is an area for any students of Chinese looking to learn more about the language and culture, and other students’ experiences. The Teaching Zone hosts articles and a password-protected resources page, to help support teachers in their work, as well as share advice and best practice. The Opportunities section has three sub-categories: education, careers, and competitions. The education section will highlight educational opportunities for students studying Chinese language and culture, such as available classes across Scotland and online, scholarships, and exchanges. The careers section is where SCEN will promote any job vacancies sent to us related to Chinese language and education. The competitions section is where we will advertise any competitions shared with us related to Chinese learning or teaching. With our content reorganised in this way, we hope it helps those visiting the site to find support and opportunities relevant to them more easily.

Our ‘About Us’ has also been refreshed, making finding out more information about our Network and its internal groups and committees as easy as a couple of clicks. Also, you can find relevant contact information on our Trustees page, as well as a dedicated contact form on our Ambassadors’ page so you are never at a loss for how to get in touch.

We are now working to develop sustainable regular content and are looking for anyone interested in contributing to site. We are always looking to promote and support the development of Chinese learning and teaching in Scotland, so if you or your organisation has any relevant news or upcoming events, please let us know so we can share it with our Network.

Please send any feedback on the new website to our Online Communications and Administrative Officer, Megan Hammell at websitemanager@scen.info.
