SCEN Events This Term

I am compiling the bookings and presentations for the following major SCEN events this term. Please would you let me know as soon as humanly possible the number of places you would like to book, and whether you want to offer a presentation at the Ambassadors' Forum or the Fourth SCEN China Youth Summit?

SCEN AMBASSADORS' FORUM:THURSDAY 8 OCTOBER, 1.30 - 4.00 PM, EDINBURGH ZOO

This Forum will take place after the morning's SCEN Advisory Board Meeting. SCEN Ambassadors, School and University students and young professionals, will lead this event in the Education Centre at Edinburgh Zoo. Refreshments will be provided at 1.30 pm. Doubtless we shall persuade the amazing Sandie Robb, Senior Education Officer at RZSS, to arrange a visit to a Giant Panda or two! The event is free.

THE SCEN LECTURE 2015:FRIDAY 6 NOVEMBER, 4.00 - 6.00 PM, THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF EDINBURGH, 22-26 GEORGE STREET, EDINBURGH, EH2 2PQ 

Professor Ian Gow OBE, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow is the SCEN Lecturer 2015. He was previously Inaugural Principal (Executive President) of the Sino-British College USST Shanghai (2009-2014). From 2003-2007 he was Founding Provost (Executive President) and CEO of the multi-award winning University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China, China's first independent foreign university campus. His theme:

Ian Gow has been a pioneer in China Studies and Relations for decades and we are extremely fortunate to have him back in Scotland. Senior pupils too will enjoy his passionate and lively style in the illustrious surroundings of The Royal Society of Edinburgh.

THE FOURTH SCEN CHINA YOUTH SUMMIT 2015,FRIDAY 27 NOVEMBER, 10.30 AM - 3.00 PM, JAMES WATT AUDITORIUM, HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY, EDINBURGH CAMPUS, RICCARTON

As you know well already, SCEN China Youth Summits are always vibrant and exciting. They also book up very quickly indeed. The University environment at Heriot-Watt is splendid, the James Watt Centre very fine - and the chef superlative, I can tell you from frequent experience! No charge for anything, including a super buffet lunch. Do book now if you want. I shall also be very grateful to receive offers of presentations of 3-4 minutes. The theme will be related to Heriot-Watt University's Confucius Institute for Business and Communication:China: Opportunities for Young Scots.

Tim Clissold,Mr China,at the Cross Party Group on China, Tuesday 29 September, 6.00 - 7.30 pm, The Scottish Parliament, and Dr Alasdair Allan MSP, Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland's Languages.

The famous business writer Tim Clissold is also determined to give more  opportunities for the study of China in our schools. His presentation is entitledClosing the Knowledge Gap on China.Dr Allan will update the Group with progress in the Scottish Government's China Strategy,Working with China, and with the learning of Chinese in Scotland's schools.
