Learn About Chinese Opera!

Dear All,

We are the Chinese Opera Association Scotland, a platform for Chinese opera learning and performance in Edinburgh. We are now starting a weekly Kunqu singing study group, every Thursday from November the 5th.

Kunqu is one of the oldest and most exquisite forms of Chinese opera, part of China's thousand year long 'poetic verse' tradition.

No previous experience is necessary. Male/female, Chinese/non-Chinese all welcome, no commitment required. There will be romanisation on the notation we provide, so you don't have to be able to read Chinese characters to participate.

The sessions will be led by Yanmei Wu, a professional performer and researcher of various Chinese musical traditions, who is relatively new to Kunqu but has studied under various singing masters over the last three years.

The sessions will focus on the learning and appreciation of two famous arias of the female lead in the Peony Pavilion using a wide variety of materials, including video and audio recordings.

Dates: Thursdays November 5th to December 3rd 2015

时间/Time: 6-8pm

地点/Location: G.01, 50 George Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9JY.
