SCEN Ambassadors' Conference and the Meeting of the SCEN Board

10 October 2014

As promised, please find below the photos from the SCEN Ambassadors' Conference and the Meeting of the SCEN Board on 29 September 2014.

Thanks to our splendid collaboration with the Confucius Institute for Scotland at the University of Edinburgh, SCEN Ambassadors and their illustrious guests met in the historic Playfair Library and SCEN Board Members in the astounding Raeburn Room in Old College, the University of Edinburgh. The theme of the Conference was Chinese: Where Next?, suggested by SCEN Youth Committee Member Ruth Higginson, of Lasswade High School. Another Youth Committee Member, Stuart Main of the University of the Highlands and Islands (previously of Queen Anne High School), emphasised the need to understand the perspective of young people when talking about education. We certainly did that!

The table chairs at the Conference were all at school or university, and Ruth, Stuart and fellow Youth Committee Member Wing-Yan Ng MSYP all contributed to the SCEN Board. I am now writing up the points raised to form the basis of a letter to Mr Michael Russell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning. You will see that soon, but meanwhile why not see yourself in Simon Jones's wonderful photos of that exciting day!
