07 January 2013
Happy New Year! I hope you have had a relaxing and recuperative break and are now ready for the next phase of your day job and also of your important mission: to promote the learning of Chinese and about China in Scottish schools!
Now is the time for action. I attach the G50 Declarations to the right of this news page, the result of the SCEN China Youth Summit at Gleneagles at the end of 2013. You will see in the comments from delegates a strong sense of enthusiasm, coupled with an understanding that financial stringency has affected our trajectory. But we can do it and we must use the legacy of that thrilling Summit to find imaginative and collaborative ways forward.
There will be a meeting for SCEN Ambassadors and their mentor staff at The Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland's National Academy of Science and Letters. The Royal Society of Edinburgh has most generously offered us its glorious Wellcome Room. The event will take place on Monday 25 February 2013, 12.30 pm - 3.30 pm (Full Details are in the Events section of this website.)
At our Summit and in the G50 Declarations, the student voice was lucid and inspiring. At the meeting of SCEN Ambassadors, we shall take the seven G50 Declarations, which are attached with the four annexes to the right of this page, and discuss them with the aim of our Ambassadors leading the way in 2013.
If you have not already done so, please let me know at once if you can come, and if you are bringing Ambassadors. Now is the time to nominate new Ambassadors, who will be presented with their certificates at this session.
Please come and let's make a difference!
