China and Asia Pacific Events

Join us in the John McIntyre Conference Centre for a programme focusing on the future in East Asia, the Pacific and beyond. Arranged in partnership with Handa charity, Worldwide Support for Development, we are thrilled to host former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Sir John Key who along with our three other speakers will consider how Chinese and Japanese views of the future have had, and will further have, tremendous impact on the world.

The evening will be chaired by Sir Tim Lankester, former Director of SOAS and Vice-Chair of Worldwide Support for Development (WSD Handa). The full line up of speakers are:

Richard McGregor, journalist, author and writer whose latest book is entitled Asia's Reckoning: China, Japan and the Fate of U.S. Power in the Pacific Region.

Sangs an' Clatter: Journey to the West - Stories from China

Storyteller Ma Wei has undertaken a long Journey to the West to share stories from one of the masterpieces of Chinese literature. Together with Scotland based Chinese storyteller Fong Liu, they will introduce you to Monkey and other characters. Ma Wei is the present-day successor of the Yangzhou PinHua - storytelling in the Yangzhou dialect. The event is hosted by The Village Storytelling Centre.
